Ho Chi Minh Watchseek

Just happen to be in Vietnam this week for a few days, scouting around for watches.

Can't find anything of much interest, millions of fake but I'm more in old unique watches. There are many old Omega but a bit cautious on it since there are many old fake.

Few shops displaying these make to look old Crystal Ball "Omega" at USD 50 each before bargaining. I did not bargain because I think they are not genuine. When few shops selling same item, it can't be real antique.

Junk street in Saigon, not many watches. Mostly statues and porcelain.

This Wittnauer watch they asking 4000000 dong about USD180, should not be that price.

Being a Tourist in District 1 is not a good place for reasonable price vintage. I can pick up better watches back home or on ebay.

Some enthusiast advise me to be careful of Frankenwatchs or some called it "United Nation Watches" due to mixed and match parts even in a Rolex.

Occasionally I visited Petaling Street on the way to Tai Sang Watch to get my spares or tooling. So why not just stop over and get some refresher on what replicas they have in stock.

Kota Kinabalu - Watch Seek

Spend few days in Kota Kinabalu it is the Capital of Sabah a state in Malaysia on the island of Borneo. Apart from watch shop that sell new from Alba to Zenith, I am more interested in old watches that I could repair or even use as spare parts.

Turn out to be a waste of time, maybe people in Kota Kinabalu hold on to their watches or they just not interested in old watches.

Memory Lane - Ipoh

This is a classic, located on Horley Street Ipoh, GPS : 4.597642, 101.082628. This place was move several times until it is at this place now. In the early 70's I frequent belakang loken till late 80's.. most people from Ipoh call it "Belakang Loken" the name derived from it's being at the back alley of Lam Looking Bazaar and yes! the building actually named as Lam Looking Bazaar as it was embossed on the wall and upstairs is the Perak emporium department store.

Late 80's or early 90's they move the vendors to People's Park (Taman Persisiran Ipoh or Ipoh Riverfront) this probably in line with Ipoh getting it city status in 1988. What a shame. it was a lively back alley, with medicine pedlar, tools seller and old junk sales abound.
